Knowledge Vector presents to Beijing Olympics Committee

DURHAM, NC, Nov. 17, 2006 – Knowledge Vector (KVI), a provider of Enterprise Awareness Management solutions and the Knowledge Switch®, recently presented to the Crisis Management & Emergent Response, Beijing Olympics 2008 and Beyond conference in Beijing on October 20 and 21, 2006. The conference was co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the new Center for Logistics and Economic Development jointly established by UNC Kenan-Flagler and Tsinghua University.

Knowledge Vector presented, along with Noel Greis of UNC and on behalf of Manny Aparicio of Saffron Technologies, the concept of “Intelligent Awareness Zones for Beijing 2008.” Eighty officials from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, the municipal government of Beijing, the Department of Emergency Management and other agencies of the Chinese government came together with academics to discuss critical challenges in crisis management and emergency response for 2008. Experts from six countries addressed both local and global threats – from logistics disruptions during the games to bird flu and failures of the power grid. The challenges for the Beijing 2008 Olympics are relevant to any large, multi-national initiative because of requirements for a security/emergency preparedness strategy that links all relevant organizations together. The joint KVI – UNC – Saffron solution provides the ability to implement policies, processes, and technologies that anticipate, mitigate, and respond to evolving threats in real time. Specifically, this solution would fuse Complex Event Processing and Intelligent Decision Support to secure Olympic venues.

In addition to presenting the solution, Knowledge Vector met with representatives from the United Nations, Tsinghua University, Beijing University, and private corporations. KVI is following up this meeting with a presentation in Atlanta, Georgia on October 31 at the Aviation and Airport Security Preparedness Workshop.
